Well, Looks like Trump don't have to drain the swamp

7 hours 50 min ago
Seems as though the Sex Harrasment stuff is going to drain it for us.....I see where a Dem. from Navada is not going to run again due to harrasment claims.....And I'm quite sure there will be more on both sides of the isle......:hmmm:

[Question] Olds vs Chevy

Sat, 12/16/2017 - 14:00
Hey Folks wanted to Wish everybody a very great Holiday Season and ask an opinion question. I have been searching for a Jet boat and my main Preference is that it has a BBC because that is what i am familiar with and I know performance parts almost grow on trees and are reasonably priced. The other part that has been a GIVEN for me is that my new boat has a Berkely pump on it, ok all Good. Well I have potentially found a boat, the boat is a 19 ft Sanger hull with a Berkely pump but its got a 455 OLDS bored .30 over, its setup with a fairly healthy Roller in it with dual 650 CFM Holleys on a Hi-Rise the present owner is claiming 600 HP Depending on the heads and the specs on the cam that is believable. If all goes as planned I think this setup could serve me pretty well for a year or two. When the time comes that I want to go through the motor and do some of my own mods to it like, a few for instances, Bigger Roller Cam, different intake setup, maybe a single carb setup or how about forced induction? I know all this is 100% out there again almost growing in the trees for a BBC, how does this apply to an OLDS motor? Chevy performance parts equal plentiful and inexpensive. FORD performance parts = harder to find less selection and MORE expensive, same with MOPAR, Where does OLDS fit into this guys? I really dont want to buy myself into a corner with no future options?
Thanks much for your thought on this guys, and all thoughts appreciated!!!

Another Cammer

Fri, 12/15/2017 - 22:03
Elsewhere on this site, FE blower manifolds were brought up, and I mentioned the Ford SOHC "Cammer". I've worked on a few of these, mostly ex-Earl Wade customers, and I am impressed with them. For most of you, even you Ford guys, actually having one or working with one isn't an everyday thing, so for me, I consider myself fortunate enough to get educated in the engine. This particular one is a Robert Pond aluminum block based Cammer, which suffered from too tight a piston-to-valve clearance issue, and tagged the exhausts. Heads were repaired in shop, new valves replaced the bent exhausts, and new pistons ordered. The owner required a long block and degreeing of cams only, as he was attending to final accessories. Here for you, check out the arrangement to drive the cams, how sturdy the block is, rod and piston selection, and a shot of the cam and rocker set-up ( this being cylinder #2 with it's rollers only engaged for degreeing, as was the other heads rollers on cylinder #1 for that cam's degreeing). Note the 3/4 groove main bearing set ( Detroit is only recently adopting 3/4 groove technology). Serious stuff! Attached Thumbnails

Christmas Luncheon at Iskendarian Racing Cams

Fri, 12/15/2017 - 20:42
Today at Isky Racing Cams, the company had it's annual Christmas party. I've been over there a few times before, and I get the opportunity to attend various other manufacturers parties, but today was pretty cool. I went there with friend, and long time land drag racer Lyle Larson, and Nick Arias Jr.( Nick Arias Sr. passed not long ago, and the piston business was bought by CP Pistons ). Beyond saying Merry Christmas to the Camfather, my alterior motive was to discuss having them grind up two new Isky Cams for the Mortician's 327s. Iskenderian never disappoints, as quite a spread of food was laid out, all of the employees and their families are invited to eat and hang out, as well as all sorts of notable people associated with motorsports.
Three of Isky's sons work there, and I had the personal attention of one of them, who went through the engines requirements, and finalized at a grind based on what they ground in 1965, only instead of a solid tappet, I requested a roller grind to '65 Super Le Gerra specs ( running lots of compression on Methanol/Nitro). How often does one get to choose what master grind they get! It's what custom engine building is all about. I was so very satisfied....Thanks guys!
What was so eerily awesome, was that Ed and I got to talking as the party was winding down, and all of a sudden, it's just Ed and I, sitting face to face in a couple of folding chairs, in the middle of his huge main building ( an "ex" Northrop Aircraft assembly building , tall as a hangar), oblivious to everyone else whom had left, just yapping away about B-24s, car club stories, etc. Ed has always been personable to me in the past, but I really enjoyed today, I must say. If any of you get the time to visit Iskenderian Cams, or are in need of a camshaft, nicer people you won't find, and Isky's products are legendary.
I included a couple of photos of Ed's famous Norton cam grinders, ( there are a roomful of them on line at any one time ), and Ed Iskenderian and myself during the party. Attached Thumbnails       Attached Images

OIL TEMP GAUGE questions

Fri, 12/15/2017 - 15:59
I only have a oil psi gauge , I would like to put a temp gauge during the winter, the issue is I know they should be in the oil pan , I have a canton oil pan that has 2 drain bungs, problem is I cant use the second oil drain (long story and not my fault:D seriously) so where is the next best place to stab the sender? or capillary if its mechanical and is electric or mechanical better? also I don't want the gauge in the dash I would like to mount it to the back of the motor maybe in one of the unused holes in the head facing the front of the boat, if possible maybe somebody can post a picture of what they have ? thanks.....

A poem for yall

Fri, 12/15/2017 - 14:47
Remember!

*

twas the night before christmas,

*

he lived all alone,

*

in a one bedroom house made of

*

plaster and stone.

*

i had come down the chimney

*

with presents to give,

*

and to see just who

*

in this home did live.

*

*

i looked all about,

*

a strange sight i did see,

*

no tinsel, no presents,

*

not even a tree.

*

*

no stocking by mantle,

*

just boots filled with sand,

*

on the wall hung pictures

*

of far distant lands.

*

*

with medals and badges,

*

awards of all kinds,

*

a sober thought

*

came through my mind.

*

*

for this house was different,

*

it was dark and dreary,

*

i found the home of a soldier,

*

once i could see clearly.

*

*

the soldier lay sleeping,

*

silent, alone,

*

curled up on the floor

*

in this one bedroom home.

*

*

the face was so gentle,

*

the room in such disorder,

*

not how i pictured

*

a united states soldier.

*

*

was this the hero

*

of whom i'd just read?

*

curled up on a poncho,

*

the floor for a bed?

*

*

i realized the families

*

that i saw this night,

*

owed their lives to these soldiers

*

who were willing to fight.

*

*

soon round the world,

*

the children would play,

*

and grownups would celebrate

*

a bright christmas day.

*

*

they all enjoyed freedom

*

each month of the year,

*

because of the soldiers,

*

like the one lying here.

*

*

i couldn't help wonder

*

how many lay alone,

*

on a cold christmas eve

*

in a land far from home.

*

*

the very thought

*

brought a tear to my eye,

*

i dropped to my knees

*

and started to cry.

*

*

the soldier awakened

*

and i heard a rough voice,

*

"santa don't cry,

*

this life is my choice;

*

*

i fight for freedom,

*

i don't ask for more,

*

my life is my god,

*

my country, my corps."

*

the soldier rolled over

*

and drifted to sleep,

*

i couldn't control it,

*

i continued to weep.

*

i kept watch for hours,

*

so silent and still

*

and we both shivered

*

from the cold night's chill.

*

i didn't want to leave

*

on that cold, dark, night,

*

this guardian of honor

*

so willing to fight.

*

*

then the soldier rolled over,

*

with a voice soft and pure,

*

whispered, "carry on santa,

*

it's christmas day, all is secure."

*

one look at my watch,

*

and i knew he was right.

*

"merry christmas my friend,

*

and to all a good night
