Since the original thread for this race was started under the race schedule page, I started a new thread here for this Region 11 race.

Salt Springs and Bayfair are on the same weekend. Boat owners have a choice to make and many have already made their decision.

In all fairness (but this in not a mandate of any kind) we owe an accurate boat count to both of our promoters. If you have not yet indicated your direction, please let us know so we can inform the Region 11 and Region 12 race promoters on what to expect.

Capnzee88's picture

At this time the boats who have indicated racing at Salt Springs reservoir are the #88,#9,#711, & #45 possibly the Del Taco (5) boat. If all five of these boats show we should have a really fun race. so far no others have indicated travelling North.

The SALT SPRINGS team called last night and offered their tow trucks to launch and recover the COR boats. They have been overwhelmingly cooperative, as they have in the past, in their efforts to make us comfortable at their races. I am hoping we don't disappoint them! Their sanction has been posted and is available for viewing. At present we have 5 boats committed to Salt Springs, #45, #88, #711, #9, #5. Hoping we can attract more. If you would like to view the sanction, go to APBA RACING web-site. They will invite on site camping as well as near by hotels, a party Saturday night for the racers, trophy plaques for the top three in each class, Frank Banducci trophies by Hill Marine for COR boats, and maybe best of all, late starts at 11 in the morning with registration on Fri. and Sat. Rod

Capnzee88's picture

Don't mean to scare any one off, but Salt Springs has scales and they plan to weigh. Scales will be available prior to race time for weighing. This, the way it should be. Also note the posts on clarification of the COR inspection rules regarding the protest fee--legal=fee goes to person who was protested-----illegal= fee returned to the person who protested. Note: no money goes to inspector or to the sponsoring club! This clarification is by Special Events Chairman and is official of today. Rod Zapf, COR Chairman

007's picture

Top 3 boats plus the #343 all weighted 1551 to 1630 lbs wet after Long Beach. Prior to that, the top 3 boats were weighted at Ming and Parker... all were over 1600 lbs.

007's picture

Been eating lots of pasta as well as weight insurance.

Capnzee88's picture

Good news, we'll probably get the rest of the boats at Salt Springs. I have never had mine officially weighed so will do so on Friday prior to racing on Saturday. Rod

Propman's picture

I have been rebuilding my engine, and still have some fiberglass work before we can race. I have been thinking that last year everyone complained that Ross didn't put us on the schedule, this year we are on the schedule, but most are not planning on Bayfair. I know that at least two of our members have been "blackflagged" and that most don't want to do a Lemans start. It may be distasteful to me, but I can't help but think what are the ramifications of not racing Bayfair? Should Ross "take offense" to the COR group maybe we all will be blacklisted in 2014.

It seems if you are in the points chase, boat owners really don't have a choice, they will be compelled to race at the site that offers the most points. In our system, this means the race with the most heats and the most boats. Now here is the rub, what if someone says they're going one way and then goes the other? I drove to Isleton last year for a six boat race, and ended up in a three boat race, sure I had fun, but had I known I probably wouldn't have gone. So this brings home two points: The points race schedule should be set prior to the start of the season, we should never have two points races on the same weekend. You might say hey APBA works that way on National points races, win with your trailer. I would counter that APBA also doesn't score points based on competitors beat like the Cor guys do. Furthermore, a points race should have a fixed number of heats per weekend and a fixed number of points available per weekend per race. Otherwise a promoter might offer ten or twenty heats per weekend in order to get us to come. Lastly, the double points scam at the beginning of the year should be ruled out, I would propose that one double points race at the end of the racing season be offered or no double points for any race.

#30 will be heading to Salt Springs. Any word on whether the area is impacted by the California Rim forest fire?

Capnzee88's picture

Bill Boyes reports that Salt Springs is not effected by the rim fire and the movement of the smoke etc is to the east away from Salt Springs. Rod Zapf, COR Chairman.

bill boyes's picture

Those who plan on attending and need a motel room I advise you you Book Accommodations ASAP in Angels Camp. At times motels rooms can be hard to get as there is lots of goings on in Murphys. There is a winery there that has concerts etc. Gold Country inn is good. 209-736-4611 Next door is Rods Cafe good food. See the Race Circular for more Accommodations.

Got the transom done and still have some work to do on the bulkheads. Got my new "hotrod" motor together so I'm anxious to give it a whirl. Salt Springs would be a good warm up for the Enduro, so Keith and I will be there to wind up the season.

007's picture

What do you have up your sleeve now? Best wishes with the new build Kevin. I am struggling to get all my parts ready for my Enduro engine. Not sure how it is going to work.

Propman's picture

I'm hopeful that you will get a chance to view it.... from the rear.... at Salt Springs. It could be a winner, or a loser, but it definetly is a departure for me, maybe you will see when you lap Keith. As you said; "I'm not sure how it is going to work"

STV_Keith's picture

Kevin, how about freshen up 'ol reliable so we have something to fall back on if the new "hot rod" isn't what we hope? These guys aren't going to cut us any slack!

more. For those who have not been to Salt Springs be sure to follow the Directions on the race circular. The road from hwy 4 on Rock Creek is not good. So just go slow 35 mph or so. DO NOT TAKE THE SHORT CUT THROUGH MILTON. YOU WILL REGRET IT. AGAIN DO NOT TAKE THE MILTON ROAD!!!! to the lake.

STV_Keith's picture

Can you post the race circular please?

Mike, aren't you having a baby that weekend?

007's picture

Baby shower is Sept. 22, due is Oct 25. Maybe he will be here early otherwise no Enduro for me but hope to have my boat running in the race either way.

Baker343's picture

Is this the quiet before the storm. Must be burnin the midnight oil trying to squeeze out another MPH.

Capnzee88's picture

MY DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND ARE COMING FROM DANVILLE TO ENJOY THE RACES. ARE THEY INVITED TO THE SATURDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING BBQ--CAN I BUY TICKETS FOR THEM? PLEASE ADVISE FOR PLANNING PURPOSES. ALSO, WHAT IS THE COR COUNT, I HAVE GIVEN THEM A GUESS AT 7 TO 8 BOATS WHICH WOULD END UP BEING AROUND 20 FOLKS TO THE BBQ. SHOULD WE BRING SIDE DISHES, MONEY? WE VERY SELDOM HAVE ANY FUN PLANS BY THE PROMOTERS IN REGION 12 SO WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT IS PROPER PROTOCOL. ROD

Capnzee88's picture

343 DON'T WORRY ABOUT ANOTHER MILE PER HOUR--IF YOU ARE GETTING xx (I WON'T TELL) AT LONG BEACH, YOU WILL BE RIGHT ALONG SIDE THE FRONT RUNNERS AT SALT SPRINGS! ROD

05's picture

New boats, new drivers, new engines, new water, looks like you are going to have a blast.
Unfortunatlely the #04, #05 and the # 9 are out of this race, be safe and have fun, please post resaults, after each day.
Thanks.

Capnzee88's picture

EMILIO, Sorry you can't come out and play this week-end. ON ALERT***THERE IS A DRIVER'S PARTY ON SATURDAY NIGHT. THIS IS FREE TO THE DRIVERS HOWEVER. THE CLUB WOULD APPRECIATE IF THE TEAMS WOULD BRING AN EXTRA SIDE DISH AND /OR MAKE A DONATION OF A FEW DOLLARS $$$$ TO HELP THE CLUB. I WOULD SUGGEST A MINIMUM DONATION OF AT LEAST 5 DOLLARS PER PERSON. THESE GUYS HAVE WORKED SO HARD TO PUT ON A RACE AND (AT LEAST BY REGION 12 STANDARDS) A 52 DOLLAR ENTRY FEE WON'T COVER THE COSTS. LETS "DIG IN" AND SHOW THEM THAT WE APPRECIATE WHAT THEY ARE DOING FOR THE RACERS! ROD

007's picture

Thanks Rod. I am happy to make contribution. Appreciated they are making this event happen for the boat racers.

STV_Keith's picture

Rod, I'd appreciate if you'd quit bashing the Region 12 races as that is our home division. We all know you have a beef with Ross, but you don't have to take jabs on every post.

Also, typing in all caps is like yelling. Why are you yelling? :)

Keith-

JJ_Gibbs's picture

Agreed Keith! Rod that your continued bad mouthing of Region 12 is just hurting everybody else in the COR class. We all know that yourself and Ron Hill tried to screw Ross with the Enduro, it's not new news. So unless you only want to race a couple times a year up north please keep your mouth shut, it would be helpful to the rest of us that want to run Region 12 and continue to support Ross's races.

Capnzee88's picture

I have been trying to build COR racing in region 11. They certainly treat the racers well. We now have at least 3 COR boats in region 11, hopefully one or more will show. It is great news that we have a nice field of boats travelling North to support the race. Please don't forget, this is a very small club with not a lot of resources. They are digging deep in their pockets to put on the Driver's Party, if you feel you can help out with a few bucks, please do so. Rod

JJ_Gibbs's picture

"WE VERY SELDOM HAVE ANY FUN PLANS BY THE PROMOTERS IN REGION 12".....This is a PUBLIC forum Rod and yes I will continue to discuss this. Above I have attached just ONE of your digs at Ross the Region 12 promoter. "When was the last time a race sponsor in region 12 has thrown a party for the racers?" This was your second dig at Ross for not planning a BBQ for the racers. Are you ready for the final dig..."THESE GUYS HAVE WORKED SO HARD TO PUT ON A RACE AND (AT LEAST BY REGION 12 STANDARDS)". If you would like to continue denying your beef and doing nothing but hurting the COR groups standing in Region 12 go ahead but it seems pretty obvious.

P.S. Rod....I will leave my comments

STV_Keith's picture

Ross did put on a racers gathering at Long Beach. It was Friday night at Panama Joes.

I do like that we are helping Div 11 get up and rolling, but I think it's a conflict of interest for COR that we are doing so on the same weekend where there is a race we were invited to in our own division...and a really big race at that. Bay Fair is huge and we didn't get invited last year. We got invited this year, but Rod chose to go to this Div 11 race instead.

Because of his following, and the fact that points are still awarded based on boat count, we had no choice but to abandon our division and follow the points.

This is why points races and points schedule needs to be addressed at our annual meeting.

Vicki from Apple Valley Marine has picked up the COR plaques for the Salt Springs Race and they are quite nice. First through fifth place in honor of Frank Banducci's contributions, including his long racing career.
