Sparks Hydrofest 2012 August 18th and 19th
Forums:
Bill Boyes is working another another great race venue for CORs in the Reno area. Bill writes.. Just returned from Sparks Marina. met with Craig and Brett Williams. Ran into Region 10 Dave Anderson there also. I cannot express into words except that this place is a GEM. I mean it. Google maps does not do it justice. Decomposed granite/sand in the sandy beach for pits. Plenty of pit space. Parking lot about 50 feet away that will blocked off for us. Will need to have parking in pits by permit. Good spot for judges stand at east end of pits. Hotel 1/4 mile away at $50/nite easy walk. Very minimal work to do to secure pit area. It is already done with fencing. Very little snow fencing will be needed. Trailer boats launching is a new concrete ramp next to pit area. Narrow one boat only but we have dealt with that before. There is a cove that is a swim area. So we do not have to deal with swimmers. Area around lake is fenced and rocks walkway is about 10/15 feet higher than waters edge. Very secure. This place is just as good as Bakersfield. This event has the potential bigger than Shadow Cliffs.

This is no Havasu!
This water looks as good as Bakersfield! Like Bill says, "We can't afford to lose water like this!" Rod

600 miles
If that number of miles is correct, a racer would have to be very dedicated and make it a persoal vacation. We have a couple of boats dedicated to the Isleton race at this time. If we have to choose between the "long hauls" I believe we should pick one and go for it. If any one is interested in Reno (Sparks), get on this thread. I don't think it is 600 miles from the L.A. area, but it may be. Rod
