Glad to hear you are going to make it Mike. I sure hope we get enough boats to make a class! Have you or Rod heard anything from the rest of the guys?

Keith-

007STV's picture

We need boats for Parker.... Walt (run what you have), Greg, Emilio, Bill, Rod, Tim, Dave, Franky, Bowden, Keith, John, Skip... Can you bring your boats to the show?

franky's picture

I would but I am not "COR Legal". My boat is not safe.....LOL. I would argue that having the cockpit that I do helps keep me in the boat and controlling it. I may not have been pitched from the boat as Dave was Sunday. Just saying.......

STV_Keith's picture

Mikes' first event, he had a 2.5, but the COR members decided to let him run around the outside and get a feel for it. No points, but still fun to be out there. Maybe they would do the same for Franky at this event? It's up to the drivers that show I guess.

With Mike and Kevin in for sure, I have been told that Johnny S. will also be there in Ron Hill's red Baker, which is at Apple Valley Marine getting rigged up right now. Kevin & Emelio are also readying Emelios boat, in case we don't get 3 to show, and have to bring it without Emelio to drive. In that case, Tim or myself would drive, to make the class. We hope that Johnny will show though, as that really isn't in the budget for Tim or myself currently.

Fingers crossed!

i vote to allow franky for the one race and hopefully we can get the 05 boat, the hill boat and a soares boat. that would make 6. if we can get greg and walt that would make 8.

STV_Keith's picture

Greg is out for sure, so he said last weekend. The 05 is out if enough boats show to make the class. If Johnny Soares shows up with the Baker and Franky is allowed to run, that is 4.

Keith-

Propman's picture

If Sories isn't too sick it would seem like we would have more than enough boats. If he drives Ron Hill's Baker, he has volunteered his Sleek for Keith or Tim. He still has his original Baker. I have Emilio's boat at the shop for a little fiberglass work, it could be pressed into service to make this race. If Frankie wants to enter and run around the outside in last place I'd say ok, but it doesn't sound like much fun to me. I agree with Mike we need some boats to enter, but let's find some legal boats to race with. I also think it is in our best interest to support Ross, he has supported our class more than anyone.

WALTHOLLIS's picture

Boat is in pieces currently, engine on it was junk. That plus I have to tour colleges this weekend with my son up in Northern California. Mirage is for sale, going to cut my losses and buy a legal boat. I have looked at one already, the one I should have bought in the first place.

You guy are asking for boats and trying to build a class, and once again there you go turning boats down because they aren't "COR LEGAL." Who cares get everybody together and go out and put on a show for the spectators and draw some interest towards you guys. "Go run around in the back" REALLY Kevin, are you afraid of Franky's boat or what. All you guys preach is bringing new people into your COR group and in the last month I can name 2 new people you have turned away. That was two more new boats to your group, but no we "COR" deam them to be illegal, at least let them gain some experience and see if it's for them without immediatly telling them run in the back and don't try and race us, maybe they just shouldn't count towards points. I don't run with you guys and I really would like to but geez I feel like there are a few of you that will figure out how to make the boat I show up with "COR ILLEGAL."

STV_Keith's picture

JJ, your argument is that you want to show up to an event with a boat that doesn't conform to the rules of the class and run competitively with them? If that was the case, what would be the point of enforcing any of the rules in the class? If any class, not just COR, ignored the rules, how long would the class be around? How long until people were running 1100# boats with 2.5 drags at 1.5" above the bottom...now we're back to real Mod VP boats that APBA doesn't want.

We have to keep the boats legal to level the playing field. The COR memberships have allowed illegal boats to come out for exhibition before, but using extra rules the COR drivers/chairman all agreed to. I don't think if you showed up with a K boat and wanted to run GN or SS or PS, that would ever even happen.

All of us want to see the COR class grow. It's a lot of fun out there. But we all have to be governed by the same rules or it's not really a class.

Keith-

JJ_Gibbs's picture

No I won't show up with a boat that doesn't conform to the "COR" rules, but you guys are turning away potential people that want to run with you for reasons that are irrelevant. I have no interest in any of this and am kinda on the outside looking in but there is ABSOLULTY no difference in Frankys boat and Mike Q's short of the cockpit. The guy already has a boat and I am sure would come run with you guys but no you expect him to either get the chainsaw out or go buy another boat. Then there was Walt, really wanted to go COR racing but his boat was 3" short. He could run the SAME boat if he spent the money to add 3" to the front sponson tips or the transom. REALLY!! It's the same boat you are just making the guy spend more money to make it legal to COR rules. I guarantee that every boat in your COR class has many other safety concerns I could point out other than Franky's cockpit or the 3" on Walt's mirage. It just seems to me that since a boat looks like it could beat up on you guys you won't allow it because it's not "COR LEGAL". The COR chairman should have final say upon who runs what boat and the rules that govern your class. I am not saying anyone including my self should have preferential treatment with rules but you guys are crying over minuscule things on boats that people want to bring into COR, and I will be the first to say there is one person in perticular that is the first person to be on the phone whining about it. This is all I will say on the matter and I as much as anyone would like to see the COR class grow.

John just couldn't get the Baker ready.... We need one more boat. Anybody?

Just think what it could have been, me in the back.....LOL joking, have fun you guys. Too bad Tim and Dave can't be there, my old boat in the front....LOL joking again. Way to swing 3030. Maybe some day I can know the secret hand shake...LOL third time

Updated race-by-race results and standings now available here COR Driver High-Points Championship 2012

STV_Keith's picture

Hey Mike, no problem. :) So are there separate boat and driver championship points then?

Also, the alternate driver for #234 is Tim Carmack.

Keith-

Capnzee88's picture

In accordance with the COR rules, the BOAT OWNER HI-POINTS is a required record of the points achieved by each boat by the number/owner. The Driver Hi-points chase is not required by the COR rules but is a record I decided would be interesting to add to the Hi-Points chase and bring more individuals who contribute to COR racing into our "circle" of COR friends. Presently then, we have two hi-point chases, one (1) for the boat owners and one (1) for the drivers whether they be owners or not. (In the case of the drivers, they are not necessarily associated with any one boat but may drive several boats during the year, earning points in each of the boats they drive. Rod Zapf COR Chairman

Tim's name is updated with a "C". Thanks for the correction. Kevin is working on updating the owners points and we will included that on the same standings sheet.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Los Angeles, Calif. Apr 19, 2012) Continuing it’s storied racing history, dating back to 1946, The Southern California Speedboat Club (SCSC) once again delighted fans with the running of the 2012 Blue Water Resort & Casino "Spring Classic" held on April 14 & 15 in Parker, Ariz.

Racing fans packed the hillsides and beaches at the majestic location situated on the edge of the sparkling Colorado River as the premier boat-racing club in the area featured not only top-notch equipment from blown inboards to strapping stock outboards but also many of the sport's most competitive drivers.

The weather created a tumultuous situation on Saturday with spotty wind and rain adding to difficult racing conditions. The inclement whether combined with drivers jockeying for top qualifying spots for APBA Western Divisional Championships made for more than a handful of blow-overs and barrel-rolls. Fortunately all drivers walked away with nothing more than a few bruised egos and some pending fiberglass repairs.

The typical dessert sun returned for the Sunday Finals and set the stage for a number of outright racing showdowns, with eager qualifying competitors vying for top bragging rights. The event was not only action packed, but also a wonderful family experience as boat owners welcomed race fans into the pits to meet the drivers and checkout the incredible racing machines. Results are posted below and please join SCSC at one of the upcoming events.

SCSC will return to action on Aug. 4 & 5, for the Lucas Oil Long Beach Sprint Nationals presented by ARP, at the Oceanside Long Beach Marine Stadium located in Long Beach Calif.
