COR ALERT
Forums:
The COR boats have been invited to run at Havasu on EASTER WEEK-END. This is the big week-end for the Grand Prix Hydros. I have no idea how they are going to patrol the water etc. and I don't know any of the specifics. They did agree to a $50.00 week-end entry fee and 3 heats of racing per day on a one mile course. They will add us to the sanction if we can show them 4 boats. I have until tomorrow to come up with boat owners willing/wanting to race at this event. At this time I am half-way there but need to hear from the rest of the class. This is not a majority rules type of vote, it is purely a boat count. Boats that show and race will receive COR points. This race is 2 weeks before Parker???? Please get back to me ASAP so that I can get back to the race chairman. Rod Zapf COR Chairman PS Thanks Mike for getting our website back up and running!

Havasu race
Ron Hill, Mike Q, Dave/Tim Carranza, Rod Zapf have expressed an interest in the Havasu Race on Easter. Interest isn't quite firm enough--would you take it a step further and give me a 90 per cent or better? Rod

It sure looks like we have a minimum of 4 boats for Havasu on Easter but none of the answers have come back as absolute solid yes answers. The Flying Finn has been the closest to a YES that I have received so far. C'mon guys, please come in with a solid YES or NO. I hate to make a promise I can't keep. I believe the referee for the race is our Special Events Chairman, Dutch Squires. I don't want to tell my boss something I can't back up. He is the one that got us on the "invite" list. Rod

Give me one more number and I can go with it--#711? #30? #214? #386 #28???? This race has the potential of over 3000 COR points for a "winning" boat! but who cares about points? We are the COR family for fun and comraderie in racing!!! Rod

It looks like we are on the agenda for Havasu! I talked to Dutch this morning, He has advised me that we would not be treated as 2nd class citizens as we have been at several of the Unlimited races. It appears at this time that there will only be 3 classes at this race; the Grand Prix Hydros, Y class hydros (small boats that go like hell-when they run) COR boats (run well all of the time). No promise of plaques or trophies, but I will work on it! Rod Zapf, COR Chairman

COR ALERT: THE HAVASU EASTER CUP
If you look up the APBA sanction you will see that their expectations are high. Quite a few of the inboard classes plus the CORS. I have been assured that we would not be treated as boat racing 2ND cousins. There should be lots of cameras and plenty of action. I don't know of a single "camera" that likes to watch a "train" go by! Get the idea? We have enough CORS to put on a fine show and give the CORBOYS a real shot in the arm--NATIONWIDE! Now there will all be clock starts, probably a 5 minute clock/gun. Don't get caught down at the far end with less than a minute to go. Whether you like a clock start or not, the race begins when the 5 minute gun fires. No need to go all the way around the course when you get down to a couple of minutes to go. Start trying to figure out how to be straight across from the clock/start line with 40 to 45 seconds to go, (you are normally allowed to "cut" through the course, watch out for the official boats/turn judges etc. ) 20 seconds when into the turn, 12 to 15 seconds at the 90 degree position, 5 to 7 seconds out of the turn and "POARING IT ON" . Saw the clock, wide-open into the first turn and you may be able to hold that lead. Now that you have the lead, guard it, but you don't want to run away from the pack. The cameras like to see the 2nd and 3rd place boats on the "catch-up" Last of all, don't give up that inside "track"! Now go gett'm boys and remember a good race is a race the camera likes to follow! It is offically a one mile course, and unless it is measured, plan on a long one mile course, wide turns, same props as Puddingstone--I wish I could be there! Rod

RV PARKING AT HAVASU
I have not heard anything official about parking however, generally a lot of the RV's stay at race headquarters. I am sure there will be plenty of room for the CORCAMPERS. If you can get there on Friday, you should be able to get the "full feel" of the operation. Rod

COR ALERT
Isleton lost one of it's favorite citizens recently. Ron Swepstson has passed away. The COR racers will remember Ron as the boat racing enthusiast who offered his ramp, dock and home to the COR racers fortunate enough to have raced in his "front yard", the Delta. We will miss you Ron as we all looked forward to seeing you anytime we visited Isleton. On the happy side, Ron's son Eric has promised to carry on his father's tradition of "giving" the ramp and facilities to the boat racers to enable the DBRA to continue their annual Isleton race. We all look forward to racing in your "front yard", the Delta. Rod Zapf, COR Chairman
