2012 membership forms
When joining APBA for next year; the cost is $165.00. You will be joining the Special Events, (local class). You will not find this on the membership form so you may have to "educate" the regristrar. It would probably work out best if you mailed your membership request in to Gloria of APBA as we have had extensive conversation on this subject and she is aware of the confusion at our local level. Now is the time to join for the upcoming year as the COR boats will very likely be placed on all of the Region 12 and some of the Region 11 races. On another note, Howie Nichols will no longer be the S.E. chairman. His successor has not been named however I will let you all know who and how as soon as the new chairman is named. Rod Zapf, COR Chairman
COR ALERT: to all of the eligible voters in the COR membership. If you have suggestions for rule changes for the upcoming season, please get them in now. I have one suggestion and that has to do with the weight limit. I would like to change the weight limit to 1325 dry weight, no driver. The current weight of 1550 with driver and remaining fuel is simply too difficult to enforce at our local races with the driver changes that we have seen. Please enter your thoughts on this rule change and we will bring it up for vote at a later date when all COR members have had the opportunity to think about it. I am throwing my "hat in the ring" and welcome the opportunity to serve as COR chairman in 2012. If any of you would also like to serve in this position, please feel free to throw your "hat in the ring". We can vote on the suggested rule changes and COR chairman in the near future. Another thought is concerning our end of the year hi-point party. I would suggest that all COR members plus any one who has driven a COR boat in competition this year and their wife or significant other be invited. Would a charge of 20 bucks per head for a steak dinner, drinks and the hi-point trophy be in order? I would offer my house as a "place" to have it. There are a number of reasonable hotels in the immediate area. Rod Zapf
I agree with the 1325 lbs rule. Anything we can do to bring together bring the Parker rules inline with COR would be great.
Steak party also sounds great.
Also wanted to remind all that the Region 12 Annual Meeting is coming up.
DATE: November 6, 2011
TIME: 12:00 noon
LOCATION:
Ron Hills Shop
2683 Halladay
Santa Ana, CA 92705
Directions: From the 55 frw. exit at Dyer Rd. go north on Dyer Rd. for about 3/4 mi. turn right on Halladay look for 2683, if you get to the railroad tracks you've gone to far.
Elections for Region Officers and commissioners will be held (no ballots will be mailed, must be present to vote). As no one as expressed a desire to run for any position, all current officers and commissioners will be listed on the ballot, as well as a space for write-ins. (Due to lower membership last year, we will only have one Inboard commissioner this year, both last years commissioners will be listed on the ballot).
Dates for Region 12 Races will be established.
Region Appointments will be made (All non-elected officers).
I'm in for the party, Rod can you suggest some date(s) that everyone can make? or should I say most can make? Could we hold our rules discussion at this time as well?
Kevin, you have the farthest to come, why don't you pick a day around the 2nd week, say the 12th to the 18th??? It would be a combined meeting (rules etc.) as you suggested. The party will be for all of the current COR members(those owners who have raced their boat at least once this year), drivers who have driven one COR race this year (Parker not considered a COR race), wives/guest of the owners/eligible drivers. I would guess this to number around 20 persons and this is about all "mi casa" will accommodate. My thoughts were to serve BBQ steaks and drinks for all who rsvp at a cost of 20 dollars per head. High Points trophy will most likely consist of "bragging rights" unless some one would like to reserrect an old trophy and transfer it into the COR hi-point trophy for the year 2011. I would appreciate comments from the COR members as to dates etc. CAPNZEE
So far, the only suggestion has been for the awards party on the 17th. If I don't hear different or get any suggestions in a week we will go with that date. If we don't hear any more period, we will cancel for lack of interest, no sense beating a dead horse. Rod
Sounds like we are well on the way to a quorum, so Christmas being a very busy season, please set the 17th aside. We will "party", congratulate the 2011 Hi-points champion, enjoy a great steak dinner, discuss rule changes etc. By name, persons eligible to attend are as followsCOR "voting" members and their guest: Kevin Taylor, Dave Caranza, Tim Caranza, Bill James, John Soaries, Skip Euwing, Ron Hill, Mickey Swarzenbach, Mike Q, Rod Zapf, (If I have left anyone out, please forgive and let me know, I am back in Illinois working from memory). I would extend the invitation to the gentlemen who have actually driven in a COR race. I believe that would be Keith Lochlear and Tim McCarron ??? who drove the #28 boat belonging to Hill/Schwarzenbach. I would further extend the invitation to include "new" owners Emilio and Greg, who have recently purchased COR boats and plan on running the 2012 COR circuit. For those of you who plan on staying in the area overnight, there is a respectable hotel very near by with a great restaurant adjacent. The restaurant is called "SIONS" and I can get the name of the hotel at a later time. THIS IS AN RSVP PARTY! Please include your check of $20.00 per person with your RSVP to COR Chairman Rod Zapf, 1015-2nd St. Manhattan Beach, CA. 90266 (310) 488-3563
I've been out of touch lately, working on the National Marine Propeller Show. The 17th of December would be good for me, so Anna and I will make plans. I will tell Emilio as well, by then he should have one race under his belt, Parker.
The personal membership forms sent to the members who raced at Isleton are suitable for framing and not meant to be placed on the boat. I totally ruined mine by trying to take it apart and place it on my boat. Rod
Michael, what would you like us to do? I know the #45 boat and the #88 boat are ready to help in any way. We will do anything possible to help boat racing in Southern California. Capnzee
Rod, Here is the latest in terms of boats. I will make sure that you and the COR drivers get credentials. Most important is that we work the booth at the show.
Thank you for your interest in the 2012 LA Boat Show scheduled for February 9-12 at the L.A. Convention Center in the South Hall. David Geoffroy, the Executive Director, from the Southern Californian Marine Association http://scma.com/ and Bill Long the Press Agent are extremely excited about our show participation. They have added a SCSC blurb on the bottom of the "Highlights" page with a nice shot of Gary's boat found here: http://losangelesboatshow.com/
We are scheduled to move our race boats in on Feb 8th and they will stay through to the 13th. Our SCSC race boats will be prominently displayed in the entrance display along with our host of race drivers and club supporters.
Right now we have commitments and or interest from the following Race Boats and SCSC Show Hosts listed below. You can contact me directly with any questions and if you have not already, please confirm your attendance. Once confirmed, I will send you your show tickets. I have put aside tickets for each of you so you can get into the show and also for your guests who can help meet and greet fans entering the show.
Gary Gosliga - CJ187 - Comp Jet
Mike Leach - P51 - K Racing
Alan Stoker - 48 - Stoker COR
Scott Schatz - P9 - Cracker Box
Marlee Hill - 1C - ASH/AXH Hydro
Mike Q - 30 - STV COR
Dean Comer - 37 - SST-45
David Hale - 42C - ASH Hydro
Chuck Skelton - SST-45
Dave and Tim Carranza - 45 - COR Sleekcraft
Jeff Conant - 98C - ASH Hydro
Below, the following individuals have shown some interest in helping to host our display. I have put aside show credentials for each of you so you can get into the show and also for your guests who can help meet and greet fans entering the show.
Ross Wallach - SCSC Race Director
Olivia & Nicole Knudson - Our sign people
Rod Zapf - COR Chairman
Carla Mulford - Show Host
Ron Hill - Boat Racing Legend
Kevin Taylor - COR Champ
STV Keith - Technical Advise
Sal Villegas - Boat Repair Expert
We also wanted to see if someone has the facilities to print 500-1000 copies of our 2012 race schedule?
Additional boats (we another inboard or two), volunteers (to host the show or help with promotional materials) and suggestions are very welcomed?
It may be a good idea for people "working" the show to dress appropriately. You never get a second chance for a first impression and that is the one that usually counts. Lots of these people will be meeting boat racers for the first time.
At the speeds you travelled last year, maybe the skippers hat and an ascot might be in order. You certainly didn't need a helmet and jacket! Just kidding, I know that the Carranza boys would know how to dress appropriately, just make sure your tee shirt is clean and your shoes have ends in them!
Yes, we were not fastest and the family ski boat would have kick our ass. we couldve just wore a tank top and a cold Miller in one hand instead of Lifeline and helmet. If you start at the bottom, you only have one direction to go from there.
You have a good point and the right attitude. I hope you kick butt next year. Looking forward to seeing you on the water. You will get very familiar with my transom, it says "BYUBOYZ Now all I need is an engine. Rod
I do have a standard 2.0 block on the "bench" that needs to be cleaned up. I need a standard piston and 3 crank case ring seals and I can go together with it. Not much of a monster motor but it should run in the high 70's. I'll leave the monster(???) motor to you young guys! I also have a new set of .060 pistons for sale.
I've got standard 2.0 liter pistons but they are the older style for the bottom guided rods. I may also have crank sealing rings if you need any parts.
I'll get some numbers off my pistons and rods, maybe we can make a "go" of it. All I have now is a pile of junk left over from the Parker race. Thanks for the offer. Rod
Bullhead is postponed until 2013 due to financial considerations (was set for June 9 & 10). Next, regarding San Diego vs. Bakersfield, Ross is waiting on a response from the Bayfair board meeting next week to discuss our possible return to San Diego on Sept. 13, 14 & 15. If Ross can get approvals for our pits, etc., he will proceed to make the deal to return to San Diego and thus cancel Bakersfield, if not and we don't get our traditional pit area, etc. then we will do Bakersfield.
